The flavor of fall’s starting to be discernable in the air here in the Merrimack Valley, and that’s downright exciting. It’s hard to pick a favorite season here at Chateau Merrimack Resort & Spa, but more than a few of our guests would probably place their allegiances with autumn, and every time it rolls around we’re tempted to agree! (Of course, the same goes for winter, spring, and summer…)

Now’s certainly the time to start thinking about escaping to our luxurious AAA Four Diamond property here in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, a mere 35 miles north of Boston and yet ensconcing you in the warm-hearted fold of singular countryside hospitality along the Merrimack River.

You’ll be both drenched in autumn ambience on our lovely property and absolutely spoiled for choices when it comes to seasonal activities, among the signature of which would certainly be paying a visit to some local U-pick apple orchards!

Pick-Your-Own Apple Orchards Near Chateau Merrimack in Tyngsborough, MA

The pleasures of visiting an apple orchard in the fall are, of course, manifold. There’s the crisp, juicy bounty itself, naturally, but also the autumnal ambience and beauty you’re treated to en route and on site, the timeless satisfaction of gathering amid the laden trees—and, at many an orchard, a slew of associated gastronomic delights, from apple cider to apple pie!

With luxurious accommodations in one of our guest rooms or suites here at Chateau Merrimack Resort & Spa, you’ll find yourself well positioned to go orchard-hopping this fall. Here are just a few of your options on that front!

Parlee Farms

Among the nearby properties is Parlee Farms (95 Farwell Rd, Tyngsboro, MA), ranked by Yankee Magazine as the best pick-your-own fruit farm in the Bay State. This 100-acre farm, established by Mark and Ellen Parrlee back in 1987, employs Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and other thoughtful, ecologically conscientious agricultural methods, and offers a variety of pick-your-own experiences across its growing season.

Besides various berries, peaches, flowers, and the like, the U-pick possibilities at Parlee Farms definitely include apples: better than 20 varieties, in fact, harvested from a 19-acre apple orchard populated with Golden Delicious, Early Fuji, Royal Empire, Honey Crisp, McIntosh, and other favorites. (You can take a gander at Parlee Farms’ full list of apple varieties right here.)

And besides the apples themselves, a fall visit to Parlee Farms can treat you to the bone-deep delights of some apple cider donuts and warm apple crisp!

Hill Orchard

Other options within convenient day-tripping reach of Chateau Merrimack Resort & Spa include the historic, roughly 20-acre Hill Orchard (4 Hunt Rd, Westford, MA), owned by the Town of Westford, which contracts with a farm manager to preserve its working agricultural legacy.

When conditions are favorable, Hill Orchard—only about 15 minutes away from our Tyngsborough resort—offers pick-your-own apples.

Drew Farm

Not far from Hill Orchard, you can steer your way to Drew Farm (31 Tadmuck Road, Westford, MA), which supplies its U-pick visitors with such apple varieties as Cortland, McIntosh, Empire, Golden (Yellow) Delicious, Autumn Gala, Evercrisp, and Macoun.

Other Fall Pleasures on a Chateau Merrimack Resort & Spa Getaway

When you head out for a pleasant afternoon of orchard- and farmstand-hopping from your Chateau Merrimack Resort & Spa guest room or suite, you can also anticipate, much of the U-pick season anyhow, some absolutely delectable fall colors. It doesn’t really get much better than combining apple-picking with some good old-fashioned, and downright world-class, leaf-peeping!

And the typically postcard-perfect fall weather—not to mention that smoldering seasonal scenery—invites hiking on the extensive local trails, biking quiet roads, and paddling the Merrimack River.
